Apple has given out an official statement saying that it won’t be launching Apple Intelligence features in the European Union (EU) this year.
European Union, Who Gave us USB-C on iPhone Won’t be Getting Apple Intelligence Features this Year (at Least)
In an official statement to the Financial Times, Apple has said the following:
Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.
iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia are all set to launch later this year, hopefully in September, with a ton of Apple Intelligence features. In a surprising move, Apple has said that it won’t be launching those features this year due to the Digital Markets Act in the European Union.
The Digital Market Acts ensures fairness in the market when it comes to a product or service and that companies will not act as gatekeepers. It seems as though Apple has realized it will have an extremely strong position in the market with Apple Intelligence and has decided to stand back a little, at least this year until the company finds a way around the Act.
If you take away Apple’s AI announcement and features, the EU will basically get an extremely barebones release of software updates later this year. Apple Intelligence is the thing which makes this year exciting, and without it, it makes no sense.
That’s not the entire story, EU users won’t even get iPhone Mirroring or SharePlay Screen Sharing.
