The Official ChatGPT App for the Mac is Now Available for Download, Does Not Require a Paid Account
ChatGPT for Mac app was announced and launched alongside the new GPT-4o update and was limited to paying users only. OpenAI has made a huge stride and has made the app available to download for everyone.
If you launch the ChatGPT website right now and sign into your account, you’ll see a prompt similar to the one below. Just click on ‘Download’ and install the DMG file, install it and away you go. Or, you can just go to the official download link here.
Accessing ChatGPT is pretty simple, just press the Option + Spacebar key combination on the keyboard and you can ask the chatbot anything you like.
You don’t get a mundane chatbot to talk with. The app lets you upload files, rewrite text, take screenshots and ask for help and so much more.
Making the app free to use is an interesting move by OpenAI. Do keep in mind Apple Intelligence has ChatGPT integration and can tap into it when required. But, due to hardware limitations, Apple Intelligence will only be available on Apple silicon Macs.
