I’m stating the obvious, but if you’re planning to install iOS 18 on your iPhone, don’t do it as things can go horribly wrong.

I Will Recommend Installing iOS 18 When the Public Beta is Available Next Month

Beta software, especially the first-ever build of a major release, is the worst thing you can install on your iPhone. There was a time I used to install these updates without giving it a second thought, then I saw how people lost their entire photo library in one go due to certain bugs. That was the last time I played around with beta software.

Fast forward to 2024 and things haven’t changed at all. It only takes a couple of minutes on different social platforms to realize iOS 18 beta is a dumpster fire and no wonder it is only available to developers and recommended to be installed on a spare iPhone by many, including myself.

Things like terrible battery life, app crashes, broken features can be found throughout the system. There’s no going around it at all. Worst of all, some features are completely unavailable, such as Apple Intelligence which is coming later this year. If you were hoping to try out the new AI related features, they’re nowhere to be seen right now. Wait till the end of the year for those.

I will only recommend installing the iOS 18 public beta which is set for release next month. If history has taught me anything, it’s that Apple’s public beta is stable enough for use on a daily basis. Is it perfect? Not even close – you still experience broken functionality and app crashes from time to time. But it not as bad as the first developer beta.

If you’re still eager to test out iOS 18 developer beta, see the tutorial posted here. Be warned, if you lose your photos, messages, passwords or anything else, I will not be held responsible. I’ll even go as far as saying that you should not even sign in your Apple ID to the device you’re testing this on. Create a secondary ID, if possible.
