For its 2025 M5 MacBook Pro and Air lineup, Apple is going for a new camera module supplier called Sunny Optical.
Apple has Tapped into Sunny Optical for Compact Camera Modules for the 2025 M5 MacBook Air and Pro
This supplier, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his investor note, is going to be Sunny Optical. What’s so important about these camera modules is, they’re very compact compared to the ones currently used in current MacBook models.
Now the interesting thing here is, this new camera module will go into the 2025 MacBook lineup. And if Apple is planning to hold off from using these modules now, it’s safe to expect a redesign of the MacBook lineup in 2025. The M4 MacBook Pro lineup will likely remain unchanged, which is set for a refresh later this year.
We do have rumors floating around that Apple is going to release a thinner MacBook Pro some time in the future. But, if you’re hoping that a thin and light MacBook Pro would arrive this year, dial your hopes down a little. Save it for next year.
Whether it’s a smaller camera module or a thinner design, I want Face ID on the MacBook. Even if it’s a MacBook Pro exclusive feature, it’s time the Mac moved away from Touch ID and embraced a faster and far better way of authentication.
Apart from this one feature, I honestly do not care if Apple is bringing back more ports or maybe even removing them. For the average consumer, small features like Face ID go a long way in terms of convenience.
