Apple’s breaking a tradition here and will finally ship the entire iPhone 16 lineup with the same A18 chip instead of different ones for regular and pro models.
iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro, You’ll get the A18 Chip, Not a Chip from Last Year for the Standard Models
The opening sentence has a massive asterisk hidden inside it and you probably know what it is. See, while there is a chance the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will share the same chip, it is very likely that the higher end model will have more cores (CPU, GPU or Neural Engine) compared to the base model.
Apple might even go up a notch by offering the iPhone 16 Pro with more RAM, who knows. If you are skeptical about all this, just take a look at the M4 iPad Pro lineup. You literally get more GPU cores and RAM once you bump everything up to 1TB and beyond. So yes, paying more will definitely get you a better phone with the iPhone 16 in terms of chip.
The news comes from MacRumors and they revealed that the iPhone 16 will use the same chip across the board and they believe Apple could market the iPhone 16 chip as A18 while the iPhone 16 Pro will be A18 Pro. It makes sense, too – give the faster chip a pro name.
I’m going to be very honest, but this news makes me really happy. The fact that Apple is going to ship a new chip to everyone at the same time, whether it has less cores or more. Selling a year old chip in a new body feels strange at this point, especially when you consider that the phone with the older chip doesn’t give you any sort of financial edge.
Whatever Apple plans on doing, one thing is for certain, all the phones are definitely going to ship with at least 8GB of RAM or more in order to make room for Apple Intelligence features. Also, the iPhone 16 is said to feature a main camera sensor sourced from Samsung, not Sony.
