Apple has lost some market share in China and is no longer in the top 5 list of smartphone companies operating there.
Apple Lost Market Share in China and Now Sits at Number 6, Top Spot Goes to Vivo
The data comes to us from Canalys, and according to them, Apple lost its top 5 position in the second quarter of this year after losing 6.7% market share in China compared to last year. Now, the drop is big, without a doubt. But, there are a few things that need to be cleared.
First and foremost, there are way too many smartphone manufacturers in China and the market is dominated by the likes of Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei, Oppo – you name it, it’s all here. Another advantage these companies have is price – they sell a smartphone at every single price point, an advantage Apple simply does not have anywhere in the world. Secondly, all of these manufacturers have an insanely wide product portfolio compared to Apple’s.
When it comes to ratings, Vivo comfortably sits at number 1 with the biggest market share. The number 2 position belongs to Honor and number 3 is with Huawei. Needless to say, the competition is fierce in China and there’s no room for those who wait till the end of the year to release a new smartphone, flagship or not.
The thing is, the lower-end segment of the market is extremely important to capture and one that is only possible if the price is extremely low. Apple simply doesn’t have a smartphone that sells too cheap. However, with the new iPhone SE 4 just around the corner, there’s a chance Apple might keep on selling the iPhone SE 3, but at an even lower price for a fully unlocked model.
Guess we’ll juts have to wait till next year to find out.
