Apple’s Health VP Dr. Sumbul Desai has said in an interview that you should sleep with your Apple Watch for accurate vital measurements.
Wearing Your Apple Watch to Sleep Lets it Record Accurate Vitals Data, According to Apple’s Health VP Dr. Sumbul Desai
Your Apple Watch records a bunch of data while you’re asleep, assuming you do have sleep tracking turned on and have the watch is on your wrist. However, with watchOS 11, Apple is introducing a brand new app called Vitals which uses metrics gathered by your Apple Watch to give you a holistic view of your overall heath.
However, in an interview, Apple’s Health VP Dr. Sumbul Desai revealed that this feature works best when you wear the Apple Watch to sleep.
The “biggest behavior change” most Watch users will have to make to get the most out of Vitals, according to Desai, is to go to bed with it. Tucked safely away from daytime stress, activity and movement that can influence health metrics like heart rate or temperature, health information collected overnight can give you a more complete picture of your baseline or “basal” state, according to Desai.
So yeah, if you want the Apple Watch to be as accurate as possible to report on vitals, wear it to bed. But, the big question is, how many of you are actually going to take this advice and wear your Apple Watch while sleeping?
Currently, the watchOS 11 software is in beta, with the public beta also available, if you want to check that out. Remember one thing, once you upgrade to watchOS 11 beta, there’s no going back to watchOS 10.
