As quietly as possible, Apple held a small media event in New York this week where it showcased gaming on the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Apple Shows off iOS 18 Game Mode and Other Gaming Experiences in Small Media Event in New York
It’s no secret that gaming on iPhone, iPad and Mac is a big thing. However, Apple saw it fit to hold a very low-key media event for it in New York this week where a bunch of people were invited, as reported by Macotakara.
During the event, Apple showed off a bunch of games such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Diablo Immortal, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and more. Basically, the cream of the crop was shown off. Apart from the games themselves, Apple saw it fit to show off upcoming gaming-centric features in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 such as Game Mode and Personalized Spatial Audio experiences.
When it comes to hardware, Apple had the iPhone 15 Pro Max, M4 iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air and the iMac on display. Don’t worry, Apple wasn’t showcasing new hardware here, everything already exists in the market and you can buy it all today.
Without a doubt, Apple is finally making big strides in the world of gaming when it introduced its in-house chips with Apple silicon. But, it puzzles me greatly whenever I see certain gaming houses refusing to bring their titles to Apple’s platform.
The interesting thing to note here is, while gaming on iPhone and iPad is huge, it doesn’t get the same amount of traction on the Mac. Thankfully, that too is slowly changing in Apple’s favor. Intel Macs were notoriously bad when it came to GPU performance and you had to invest a lot of money to play a good title. Apple silicon takes down that barrier completely and gives everyone access to massive graphics performance and at the same time gives developers a wider audience to cash on.
