Apple Maps Now Available on the Web as a Public Beta – Go and Check it Out Today
Apple Maps has been around for quite a while and you can access it using an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Now, you have a fourth way of accessing Apple Maps and that’s through the web. That’s right, Apple Maps has been officially launched on the web as a public beta.
Using the web, you can use Apple Maps to get driving or walking directions to places nearby, discover new places, check reviews and so much more. It’s basically the complete Maps experience but on the web.
In some countries, especially in the United States, Apple’s own mapping effort is very, very good compared to others. Some people actually swear by it and don’t use third-party options at all. And, if you’re someone who loves using Maps on your iPhone and iPad but don’t have a Mac, this launch should be great news for you.
In order to access Maps, just head over to this link. You don’t have to sign up for it or anything. Do keep in mind that this is a public beta and you may run into issues in some places.
If you can’t recall, the initial launch of Apple Maps was a complete disaster. It was so bad, Apple had to double-down on its efforts to improve it and people even lost their jobs over it too, one being Scott Forstall, the man in charge of iOS at the time.
The worst part about the initial launch was how Apple ditched Google Maps completely in favor of its own maps on the iPhone and iPad. There was no choice at all.
Guess everything turned out just fine.
