In a recent interview, Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser slams the competition for their lack of innovation compared to Apple Music.

Apple VP Oliver Schusser Slams Spotify and YouTube Music for their Inability to Innovate

There are very little incentives to choose from when deciding which streaming service you want to go with. Interestingly, Apple has done a pretty good job at this and Apple’s Vice President of Music Oliver Schusser makes this clear in a recent interview with the Wallpaper.

There are a ton of things he talks about in this interview, including the new Beats Pill and how it’s a premium product. However, during the interview Apple’s VP takes a jab at its competitors, stating they have stopped innovating. He says that Apple is focused on delivering quality service and works hard in the background in order to do so. For example, music went from being mono to stereo, and it has been like that for ages. Apple introduced Spatial Audio to its listeners and surprisingly, 90% of subscribers listen to music in the new format. That’s a huge number.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser goes to state that the competition has been running away from music and dipping its toes in podcasts and audiobooks. It’s clear the jab is aimed towards Spotify and YouTube Music, and these services don’t offer anything close to Spatial Audio, nor lossless audio quality. Just ‘high quality’ audio streaming options are available. We’ve been hearing about lossless for quite some time but nothing has manifested so far.

It’s a very interesting interview and one I will highly recommend you should check out. The state of streaming services is bleak at best. Rather than focusing on music and delivering great quality to the consumer, it’s clear these services are interested in offering the least amount of features at the most amount of money.

I’m not going to name and shame anyone here, but rather than call Apple a monopoly, it puzzles me why companies don’t work hard to improve their own services instead.
