According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s rumored ultra-thin iPhone 17 – the ‘Slim’ model – is going to focus on form rather than high-end specs.
iPhone 17 Slim will Feature the A19 Chip, 6.6-inch Display, Single Camera Lens, Apple 5G Modem
We heard news recently that Apple is working on a very thin iPhone 17 variant called the ‘iPhone 17 Slim.’ Turns out, it’s not going to be a high-end model at all. Instead, the purpose of this model is to be sold as a ‘next-generation’ device that focuses on form, not specs.
Thing and light, remember?
Having said that, the iPhone 17 Slim is going to feature a 6.6-inch display with a regular A19 chip – non-Pro – along with a Titanium and Aluminum body that uses less percentage of Titanium. This makes perfect sense if Apple is planning to create a very thin phone, hence the usage of lesser material on the side where all the Titanium goes. However, this iPhone 17 Slim is going to feature just one camera on the back and I’m assuming that camera is going to be of the 48-megapixel variety.
The interesting thing to note here is this – the Slim model is going to ship with an Apple-designed 5G modem. Currently, the company relies on Qualcomm for all its 5G modems. If Apple is planning to use its in-house modems this early, it’s going to be a huge move.
So, with a single lens, a regular A19 chip, thinner design, in-house 5G modem, this is going to be the next-generation iPhone which Apple is going to test out with the masses. And, a previous report suggested it will cost around $1,299. That is not an affordable iPhone at all. It’s the most expensive one Apple has made so far.
The report goes further to say that the new iPhone 17 Slim is not going to replace the iPhone 17 Plus which is quite interesting. Given its price of $1,299 (if true) it’s not replacing anything at all.
