This is probably the wildest headline you’ve read this week. But, it is a great story about how the HomePod ends up saving an entire family.
HomePod Ends up Saving an Entire Family After Detecting a Fire in the Kitchen
Great technology constantly works in the background to simplify our lives and make us feel safe at the same time. Turns out, the HomePod is no joke at all as this latest story reveals.
On the 26th of June, Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a fire that was accidentally started by a dog in the kitchen. The entire family was saved when their HomePod detected the fire and sent the family a ‘high heat’ warning on their Apple devices. Do keep in mind that the second-generation HomePod and HomePod mini do have a built-in temperature and humidity sensor. But, if this story is to be taken at face value, it seems as though the speaker sent everyone in the family a push notification that high temperature was detected.
The post on Facebook does say that the family’s fire alarm wasn’t working, so it gives more weight to the fact that the temperature sensor inside the HomePod was the thing that saved everyone’s life.
The thing is, we tend to ignore certain gadgets until they do something miraculous as saving a life, or several lives, in this case. Sound Detection alongside the temperature sensor on HomePod and Crash Detection on iPhone and Apple Watch are features I truly wish no-one never gets to use. But, if you do come across a situation where these things do come into action, it gives me peace of mind knowing that my gadget is going to save my life by informing me and the concerned authorities on time.
I have heard a lot of stories about how Apple Watch ended up saving someone’s life. But, HomePod? Never thought about it, ever. And it makes me happy that it works exactly the way it should, too.
