Apple TV software updates are easy to install. Just launch the Settings app from the Home Screen, go to System > Software Update and install the available update from here. These updates install quickly, too. Just make sure you do not play around with your TV or the remote when the update is installing.
You must be wondering why I went straight for the download part rather than talk about tvOS 17.6? Because, there’s nothing to talk about. That’s how tvOS updates are. You barely get enough feature changes that make things exciting.
Apart from tvOS 18, there’s a brand new version 17.6 update available for the HomePod as well. You can download it straight from the Home app. If you have automatic updates available, you don’t have to do anything at all. The update will install on its own.
Don’t get me wrong here, I’m actually glad tvOS is like that. It’s meant to deliver video and photo experiences to the large screen. That’s the primary focus, and that is something it should be good at, and it sure is. Even with tvOS 18 on the horizon, the changes are extremely minimal. It delivers features like InSight, improvements to how the Apple TV and HomePod work as Home hubs and more.
If you want to install tvOS 18 developer or public beta now, you can do that as well. But, I will recommend holding back from installing it and just wait for the final version to arrive later this year. We’e really not that far away from the final release of this new software lineup.
