tvOS 18 public beta for Apple TV is now available for download with new features like InSight for TV+. Here’s how you can install it now.
tvOS 18 Update with InSight and Other Improvements Now Available as Public Beta for Apple TV Users
If you’re way too deep inside the Apple ecosystem, you definitely care about the Apple TV. It got a new update with tvOS 18 and it packs a decent amount of changes, too. With the software currently available as public beta, you can take it for a spin right on your Apple TV and see what the fuss is about.
Apple has made the process of installing public beta software so, so easy. All you have to do is follow a few steps and the update will be delivered to you over the air.
Step 1. Turn on your Apple TV.
Step 2. Open the ‘Settings’ app.
Step 3. Scroll all the way down to ‘System’ and open it.
Step 4. Open ‘Software Updates.’
Step 5. Here you’ll see an option called ‘Get Beta Updates’ and make sure it’s set to receive public beta updates.
Step 6. Follow the instructions and you’ll be installing tvOS 18 public beta in no time.
At face value, tvOS 18 looks exactly the same as tvOS 17. But, when you dive deeper, you’ll find features like InSight that will prove to be useful, especially if you use TV+ a lot. Apart from that, you now have the option to select which Apple TV acts as your preferred Home hub, a feature which was missing since the inception of HomeKit. I’m glad this last feature is a part of tvOS 18 as you can manually set the best-connected Apple TV to act as a hub rather than some HomePod sitting in the far corner of your home.
Anyway, tvOS 18 is a very subtle update and one which makes your smart home environment better. I wish there was a new UI or something that would freshen things up, but Apple has put in all that effort into iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
