References found in iOS 18 beta 4 suggest Apple is going to use AI to create custom artwork for playlists in Apple Music.

iOS 18 Beta 4 References to New Feature that Will Generate Custom Artwork for Your Playlists in Apple Music

There’s nothing more dear to a person than their music playlist. If you really want to take things up a notch, adding custom artwork to your playlist truly makes it yours. With iOS 18, that will become an AI-powered thing.

Code found by 9to5Mac in iOS 18 beta 4 reveals Apple’s plan to do just that. In Apple Music, there will be a new ‘Create Image’ button for custom playlists that will take you to the Image Playground app where your artwork will be generated. I’m sure it will simply use artist names and song titles as prompts to create an image which you can fine-tune using additional prompts. We’ve seen a similar demo for this in WWDC 2024 where Apple showed off a sketch in the Notes app that turned into a digital masterpiece using Image Playground.

While there are references to Apple Intelligence everywhere, the feature itself is nowhere to be found. Apple does say it is coming later this year and the enhanced Siri experience will arrive some time early next year as part of iOS 18.4. The interesting thing here is, it was a major chunk of all the announcements from WWDC 2024. You would expect some of these features to be around for testing.

I’m hopeful we will get to test out Apple Intelligence while using the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 betas. When exactly? Can’t even take a guess now.
