According to a new report, the iPhone 16 Pro will likely have a 5x telephoto lens, just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple Wants to Bring the 5x Telephoto Lens to the iPhone 16 Pro, But What Will the iPhone 16 Pro Max Get?
When you pay more for the iPhone Pro Max model, you literally end up getting more iPhone for your money. With the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the bump to the latter means you get 256GB of storage space, compared to 128GB in the Pro, and a 5x telephoto lens, compared to 3x in the Pro.
A new report out of DigiTimes suggests Apple is bringing the 5x telephoto camera to the iPhone 16 Pro which means it won’t be exclusive to the Pro Max model. Apple has apparently placed a heavy order of these lenses from its supplier, too.
If this report is true, and I hope that it is, it will be a huge deal for those who want the most amount of features without going overboard with their budget. See, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is not a cheap smartphone at all. It starts at a price of $1,199. If you can get the 5x telephoto at a price of $999, assuming the iPhone 16 Pro starts at that price, it will be a great deal who use their iPhones solely for taking photos and recording video.
That much amount of zoom in such a small factor is going to be a treat for those who love recording video. Carrying a chunky phone is not always ideal though you do get a larger viewfinder, something that is not always important. Portability always wins at the end of the day.
It also makes you wonder how far technology has come in a year, manufacturers figuring out how to fit a periscope lens in a smaller iPhone body. If that’s the case, there is a chance Apple might actually bump up the telephoto credentials of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. After all, the phone does have a lot of space, allowing Apple to shove in more technology and features.
It is also rumored that the main camera sensor on the iPhone 16 lineup will be made by Samsung this time around, and not Sony.
