A new report suggests Apple is going to start using an advanced camera sensor from Samsung for the iPhone 18 lineup in 2026.
Apple to Drop Sony as its Camera Supplier for the iPhone in Favor of Samsung
We’ve heard this one before – Apple dropping Sony as its supplier for the camera module on iPhone. The Cupertino giant plans to tap into Samsung’s advanced camera modules instead. Today, Ming-Chi Kuo has jumped in and suggests Apple is going to use a 1/2.6-inch 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera from Samsung for the 2026 iPhone, or more precisely, the iPhone 18.
The previous report on a similar topic suggested Apple is going to drop Sony as its supplier for iPhone 16 camera module this year. Some details are definitely missing and it seems as though Apple is sticking with Sony for this year and the next one. Apple wants to switch over to Samsung from Sony due to reliability issues. Previous report also suggested Samsung’s new advanced camera module allows Apple to achieve things which isn’t possible with Sony camera sensors.
The iPhone 18 is lightyears away from launch. Right now, the focus is on the iPhone 16 lineup and it is shaping up to be an interesting one for the masses. I am expecting a robust lineup that will be fueled by tons of power and RAM, thanks to Apple Intelligence. Apart from that, camera related improvements are expected as usual. Apple has also made some internal changes to the iPhone 16, ensuring the phone does not overheat when it is going through intense tasks.
We are just a couple of months away from the launch of iPhone 16 and it seems as though the biggest focus will be Apple Intelligence. So far, the feature is nowhere to be found, not even in the latest iOS 18 beta 4. But hey, if Apple says it’s coming, it’s definitely coming, right?
