Apple is apparently working on a new accessory for the home and it is most likely a smart display, according to leaked code.
References to a New ‘Home Accessory’ Found Online, Powered by A18 Chip, Could be a Smart Display Running tvOS
Apart from HomePod and Apple TV, Apple has no other home accessory at all. But, if MacRumors’ findings are true, it seems as though Apple is working on a new ‘Home Accessory.’
This is actually a huge find and let me explain why.
According to the identifier found by the source, the device is called ‘HomeAccessory17,1’ which means two things. One, the device will be running Apple’s latest chip, the A18. Secondly, the device will run a version of tvOS software.
tvOS is an interesting choice for such an accessory, especially when you realize that it is meant to be run on something that is connected to a display. Releasing a new HomePod at this point makes no sense as Apple has covered the base quite well with the second-generation HomePod and the HomePod mini. That leaves us with a device that could be a smart speaker with a built-in display.
If this device is powered by the A18 chip, it means it has all the muscle power to run Apple Intelligence. With a display on top, it will be able to give the user a visual outlook of everything being done.
Do keep in mind that such a device – a smart display by Apple – has been rumored for release for a long, long time now. And since Apple Intelligence is right around the corner, it makes perfect sense for it to exist in Apple’s lineup.
This news has me excited for a wide variety of reasons. Mainly because it is going to be a smart display from Apple which ties in tightly with the ecosystem. You can have your photos on display, have an overview of your HomeKit accessories and so much more.
Let’s just hope Apple actually delivers this device once and for all.
