If you always wanted a larger iMac, you will be pleased to learn that Apple is currently working on a larger version of it.
Apple Currently Exploring a Larger iMac, but it’s Unclear when it is Going to be Released
The news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. According to him, Apple is currently exploring the idea of a larger iMac but it is not going to release it this year, at least. This year, Apple is going to update the current 24-inch model with the M4 chip and that has been on the cards for quite a while now.
It remains to be seen how big the new iMac is going to be. If the 24-inch iMac is any indication, the new model may break the 30-inch barrier. We can expect thinner bezels, most definitely. But, there’s no telling what the design is going to be like. Is Apple going to make the 24-inch iMac bigger in Photoshop and call it a day? Will it have exclusive features? Only time will tell.
The one thing I want to see in the larger iMac is this – support for faster chip options. The iMac doesn’t need to go far and wide ether with the upgrade options either – a simple bump up to the ‘Pro’ chip is going to be more than enough for a lot of people. And given how good Apple silicon is, no-one needs more than the base chip anyway, hence the Pro is going to be the perfect upgrade for the niche that demands a little extra power.
Although a larger Mac is great and all, but I think Apple’s current strategy for the Mac makes more sense. If you want a bigger display, just get the Studio Display or the Pro Display XDR and pair it with either a Mac mini, Mac Studio or Mac Pro. All of these Macs can be upgraded to insane power levels, too.
