Apple is currently working on a pair of smart glasses and a cheaper Vision headset that is set for release next year.
Smart Glasses by Apple Currently in the Works, Cheaper Vision Headset is Coming as Early as Next Year
Apart from a cheaper Vision headset, Apple has been working on smart glasses for quite some time and it is continuing work on it, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These smart glasses won’t include any display and will be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. Said glasses rely on Meta AI and given Apple Intelligence support on iPhone, it makes sense Apple would end up making a similar decision for its own product.
If I’m to take a guess, Apple is going to include a camera with their smart glasses that will be able to assist the wearer with a number of things. For example, ask about a certain landmark that is in front of you, identify something and so on. Apple can take the Google or Microsoft route and record each and every personal thing you do on a daily basis and you can use Apple Intelligence to recall a certain part of the day. A privacy nightmare, I know. But, who knows Apple might figure out a way to do it completely on-device.
Though the company is working on smart glasses, there’s no word about its announcement or release date.
On the Vision side of the fence, Mark Gurman says Apple is actively working on the cheaper headset and it will be launched next year. In fact, Apple is working on the Vision Pro 2 as well, though previous reports did say Apple has temporarily shelved the product in favor or a cheaper version. However, there’s no word on when Apple will release the next Vision Pro.
The headset could cost $1,500, which is definitely way cheaper than the Vision Pro, but it remains to be seen how many compromises Apple had to make in order to bring the price down.
