Apple has released an updated version of iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 for iPhone and iPad. Download it today.
Updated iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 Software with Build 21G101 Released for iPhone and iPad
iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 was an important update with fixes for Advanced Data Protection. However, it seems as though the initial update was not up to the mark and Apple has re-released it for all compatible devices.
You can download the update by simply going to Settings > General > Software Update. When iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 shows up, install it right away, especially if you rely on Advanced Data Protection a lot.
It’s very hard to say what this update fixes for iPhone and iPad. Since it exists, it’s safe to say it’s extremely important for users around the world.
Installing the update over the air is the way to go and I wouldn’t recommend going through the trouble of installing it using Finder on your Mac. Just try and keep things as simple as possible for yourself here.
Given how close we are to the release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, the current public software is slowly losing its charm. Even still, it’s good to see Apple pushing out updates on a regular basis to keep things running smoothly.
The new iPhone is set to be announced on the 10th of September, and soon after the announcement we can expect the final version of iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 to arrive. But, that’s not where the fun ends. Apple is going to step things up with the release of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 as well. That’s the version you should look forward to since it includes Apple Intelligence.
I don’t think Apple is going to release a major update to iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 this point onwards. We might just see iOS 17.6.2 and iPadOS 17.6.2 at best with bug fixes, nothing else.
Anyway, make sure you download and install iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 with the new build number right now if you want your iPhone and iPad running smoothly.
