Apple has released tvOS 17.6.1 for the Apple TV with a bunch of bug fixes. Here’s how to download and install it now.
Apple Releases tvOS 17.6.1 Update for Apple TV Users – Download and Install it Today
tvOS 17.6.1 is a small update for Apple TV which you should download and install right now. It includes bug fixes only. Though it’s hard to come across bugs on Apple TV, but I’m glad to see Apple has patched them up in the latest update.
In order to download tvOS 17.6.1 right now, launch the Settings app in tvOS, then go to System > Software Update. Once here, download the latest update. Your Apple TV will restart several times – do not turn off your TV or change channels. Once the installation is complete, you’ll jump straight into the Home Screen. You can continue using your Apple TV normally after that.
Though tvOS 17 may not be that interesting, the upcoming tvOS 18 update is not going to win you over either. However, once you lift the lid a little and squint your eyes, you’ll notice some extremely important changes, such as the ability to select the Home Hub of your choice.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe tvOS does not need big changes at all. If the underlying structure is strong, then everything will function at its best. This is exactly what tvOS 18 is about. But, I’m sure Apple is going to take things up a notch whenever it decides to launch new Apple TV hardware. When that will happen is anyone’s guess at this point.
