You can reduce bass on your HomePod and HomePod mini for a more balanced sound. Here’s how you do it.

Too Much Bass on your HomePod or HomePod mini? Enable the Reduce Bass Feature to Fix it

For its size, the HomePod and HomePod mini push out a great amount of bass. While that sounds fantastic to some people, some find it overwhelming and not to their taste. If that’s the case for you as well, then you may want to turn on the Reduce Bass feature on your HomePod and HomePod mini.

When this feature is enabled, the HomePod will turn down the bass a little for more clarity in the mid and high ranges. If that’s exactly what you want, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1. Launch the ‘Home’ app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Step 2. Find the HomePod whose bass you want to reduce.

Step 3. Tap and hold on the HomePod icon to show more details. If you’re using a Mac, right-click on the HomePod. Now open ‘Accessory Settings.’

Step 4. Scroll down a little and you’ll see the ‘Reduce Bass’ option. Just turn it on, that’s all.

From now on, your HomePod won’t output too much bass. This is a particularly useful feature if you love listening to music while falling asleep – everything will sound absolutely balanced no matter what you’re listening to.

In fact, you’ve already come across a ton of situations where you wanted to enable this feature. But now that you know it exists, you can enable and disable it at will straight from the Home app using your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Given how much HomePod relies on computational audio algorithms to make everything sound great, it may fall short in some places. While users demand as much bass as possible, but sometimes, even slightly more can be a little too much for some.
