Well, we now know which iPhone 17 model will have 12GB of RAM – it’s the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone 17 Pro Max will Exclusively Ship with 12GB of RAM and Enhanced Cooling System
Yesterday, a report said the iPhone 17 will ship with 12GB of RAM. The report didn’t go into detail which model will have that amount of memory. Today, Ming-Chi Kuo has stepped into the scene and clarified that 12GB of RAM will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Apart from having that amount of RAM, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is also said to feature a superior cooling system which will be a mix of vapor chamber and graphite sheets. This means the larger smartphone in the lineup will be able to sustain workloads for longer without getting too warm or hot.
iPhone RAM has suddenly become an important spec overnight, thanks to Apple Intelligence. Apple’s AI adventure requires at least 8GB of RAM to work which is the reason why it is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Every other iPhone features less RAM hence no AI features for them.
With 12GB of RAM on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it remains to be seen how much RAM Apple is going to ship other models with. I believe Apple isn’t going to ship more RAM on the Pro Max just to make it faster than the rest of the lineup. There’s a chance the iPhone 17 Pro Max has an exclusive feature that requires more memory when compared to other models.
Think about it – a superior cooling system and 12GB of RAM while other iPhones will only have graphite sheets and lesser RAM. Looks like Apple is planning something big for the Pro Max next year. Thankfully, the rumor mill works around the clock and we will end up hearing about this more.
