The latest report suggests Apple’s M4 MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini are all set for release later this year.
M4 MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini will be Released this Year, M4 MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro Coming in 2025
2024 is shaping up to be a very exciting year in so many ways. We have the iPhone 16 to look forward to, and since the M4 chip is out with iPad Pro, we can expect that to make it onto the Mac as well.
According to Mark Gurman, the M4 MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini are all set for release later this year. However, the MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro will be updated to the M4 in 2025. This also adds fuel to a previous report suggesting the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 will be released later this year.
According to another report, the M5 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro will have a thinner profile. If you were expecting a design refresh this year in the MacBook Pro lineup, you might have to wait another year until the M5 model comes out. But, given how fast the M4 is, it seems as though the new Macs are going to offer big performance in the same package.
The two computers from Apple I love see getting updated is the MacBook Air and the iMac. It’s bonkers how fast the MacBook Air has become ever since it embraced Apple silicon. Even after all these years the original M1 MacBook Air flies through macOS like it’s no big deal. That laptop was released back in 2020 along with the Mac mini and MacBook Pro, and all of them will be getting the big Apple Intelligence upgrade this year.
The iMac, on the other hand, is a fantastic Mac with a big screen. It’s the best there is in its class. With the M4 chip, I really wish Apple gives it some other upgrade, too. The 24-inch iMac is great, but a bump in screen size or at least an option with a larger display would be wonderful.
It also remains to be seen how much better the M4 chip is compared to the M1 when it comes to handling AI related tasks. I believe the M4 chip will truly shine in places like generating images using the Image Playground app in macOS Sequoia. However, it will be a jaw-dropping moment if there’s no different in performance at all between the two chips.
