Wondering what’s new in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 for iPhone and iPad? Here is everything that is new in this release.
iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 Beta 2 Mostly Includes Changes from iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Beta 5
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 beta 6 is a bug fix and refinement update, but iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 2 gets a bunch of changes that were available with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 beta 5. If you were hoping for a ton of changes in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 2, you may want to dial your hopes down a little because nothing here is going to surprise you in any way.
Let’s jump right into it.
Updated Siri Animation
Press and hold the sleep/wake button on your iPhone or iPad and you’ll notice a very slightly updated Siri animation compared to beta 1. It’s not a huge change, but if you have really, really good eye, you’ll spot the change.
Hide Distracting Items in Safari Arrives
A feature that was a part of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 beta 5, you can now get rid of website elements in Safari by tapping on the display. It’s a nifty little feature that lets you remove distracting things from websites.
Photos Carousel Removed
The carousel in the Photos app has been removed, just like beta 5. Apple says they’ve removed this feature based on public feedback. I’m inclined to believe that, although a feature to turn the feature on or off at command would have been nicer.
Apple Cash for India and UK
Apple Cash is now available in India and UK in the Wallet app but you can’t use it just yet. It’s a sign that this feature is nearing release but it’s unclear whether users will be able to start using it in beta or will they have to wait until the final release later this year.
That’s about it. If you were expecting something groundbreaking here, there isn’t any. But hey, iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 2 packs bug fixes, too. If you have been facing stability issues, the new update should help in some way, if at all.
