Sure, the AirPods 4 are great, but if you already own the AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 3, you’re not getting a battery upgrade at all.
Apple’s New AirPods 4 Offers 1 Hour Less of Listening Time Compared to AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2
I love the AirPods 4, don’t get me wrong. Newer AirPods are always better when it comes to sound and technologies. The AirPods 4 even introduces a brand new ‘active noise canceling’ tier that gets you a Pro feature for $179. I will totally buy into that, no doubt.
However, when it comes to battery life, the AirPods 4 isn’t going to be the upgrade you thought they would be, compared to AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro 2. It’s a downgrade.
On a single charge, you can get up to 6 hours of listening time on the AirPods 3. AirPods Pro 2, on the other hand, offer up to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge even with noise canceling enabled.
AirPods 4 offer up to 5 hours of listening time on a single charge while you get up to 4 hours of listening time with noise canceling enabled.
When you take into account the charging case, all offer up to 30 hours of battery life. However, if you need more battery life per charge, then the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 are way better options.
I believe 1 hour of battery life less shouldn’t be a problem for most people given you get a total of 30 hours with the charging case anyway. Do keep in mind you are getting newer AirPods and its set of features including a smaller charging case. And don’t forget the brand new design that is meant to be more comfortable. I’ll take that over battery life any time of the day.
But, would you?
