The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus phones are now official. Here are the features, price and release date details in one place.
Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus Now Official – Here’s Everything You Need to Know Including Features, Specs and Release Date
Available in two sizes – 6.1-inch for the iPhone 16 and 6.7-inch for the iPhone 16 Plus. The increase is screen size is reserved for the Pro lineup of phones. But hey, it’s a tried and tested display size and one everyone loves, so why change it, right?
These displays are extremely bright and can hit up to 2,000 nits outdoor and drop all the way down to 1 nit in darkness. If you’re all about HDR content on the go, these displays are crazy in terms of brightness.
The phones are powered by the A18 chip. It is 2x faster in machine learning tasks, making it perfect for Apple Intelligence. This chip is built on 3nm technology which makes it faster and more efficient compared to previous generation of chips. It is 30% faster compared to the iPhone 15. In other words, it’s simply better than what Apple shipped in iPhone 15.
Thanks to its 16-core Neural Engine, the iPhone 16 crushes AI tasks on-device. It even features a 5-core GPU that offers 40% more performance compared to the A16 Bionic. That’s not all, the 6-core CPU makes this phone 30% faster than the iPhone 15. It’s a huge leap in performance, that’s for sure.
The camera arrangement has been changed as well. Instead of the diagonal arrangement, Apple has gone back to the iPhone X days with a top-bottom arrangement. It looks way nicer, honestly. But there’s a reason why Apple is doing this – in order to capture spatial photos and videos for viewing in Vision Pro.
Action Button is also here, allowing you to assign anything to a dedicated button to the side of the iPhone. Whether you want to launch the Camera app, record an audio note or run a Shortcut, iPhone 16 users can get extremely creative with this new button.
The new Capture button is real, except that it’s called Camera Control. It works in both landscape and portrait and is flushed into the body. One click and you’re straight into the Camera app. Click again and you’ll take a photo. Click and hold and you’re recording a video. The button knows when you’ve pressed lightly or deeply. You can even swipe on it to zoom into a photo, change settings and more.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature a 48-megapixel main camera which Apple calls the Fusion camera. The second camera is ultra-wide and captures 2.6x more light which means no more dark photos and videos when the sun goes down. The ultra-wide shoots photos in 12-megapixel resolution.
Visual Intelligence is an iPhone 16 exclusive feature that uses the device’s camera to give you details about the thing in view. Just press and hold the Camera Control button and the viewfinder will come into view, point your phone to anything you want information about and Visual Intelligence will do the rest for you.
iPhone 16 offers 30% higher sustained performance for gaming, thanks to its internal architecture. If you ever noticed dropped frames or an overheating iPhone during a gaming session, that shouldn’t be a problem here.
When it comes to Wi-Fi performance, the iPhone 16 is crazy fast. The lineup features Wi-Fi 7 across the board, allowing you to take full advantage of your gigabit+ internet speeds at home, provided you have a Wi-Fi 7 router to go along with it, too.
When it comes to price, the iPhone 16 starts at $799 for the 128GB model and the iPhone 16 Plus starts at $899 for the 128GB model. Available for pre-order on Friday and available on the 20th of September to buy in stores.
These phones will be available in 5 new colors: black, white, pink, teal and ultramarine.
