Despite its partnership with OpenAI, Apple is not going to invest in the company, according to a new report.

Apple Pulls Out of Investing in OpenAI – Microsoft and NVIDIA Likely to Invest in the AI Giant

It’s understood that Apple is not paying OpenAI a dime when it comes to its partnership for Apple Intelligence and vice versa. I’m not sure how that’s going to work out in the long run.

The partnership is very strange at best. At first, it was believed Apple was going to sit on OpenAI’s board as an observer. But, that quickly fell apart. Now, we are hearing a report Apple is not going to invest in OpenAI, something which was on track, until last month, at least.

According to The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is planning to close a funding round next week and companies like Microsoft and NVIDIA are part of it, and will likely invest, too. However, Apple has pulled out and will not invest anything.

The funding round isn’t small either. OpenAI expects to raise up to $6.5 billion.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is going to be a huge part of Apple Intelligence. However, it won’t be when the first bits of Apple’s AI starts to roll out starting next month. ChatGPT integration will work side-by-side with the new Siri, allowing users to tap into the power of OpenAI’s service where Siri falls short.

And surprisingly, Apple is not paying OpenAI a dime for it and vice versa. It’s hard to believe, right? But, it’s true.
