The iPadOS 18 update that bricked some M4 iPad Pro devices, Apple is working to fix that.

Apple’s Internal Memo Suggests Apple is Working to Fix iPadOS 18 Update for M4 iPad Pro Users

While most of the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 rollout has been pretty smooth, but it didn’t go so well for several M4 iPad Pro users. The update bricked some iPad Pro devices, forcing Apple to pull the iPadOS 18 update for the entire M4 iPad Pro lineup completely.

Two important things – first, Apple has acknowledged the issue, at least internally, according to a memo obtained by MacRumors. Secondly, Apple is working to fix the iPadOS 18 update and has therefore pulled the update for all affected devices.

Apple has advised technicians to attempt a force restart of the bricked devices. I’m not sure how this ‘force restart’ works, and whether or not it is something we mere users know about, but I’m curious to know how it works.

Long story short, Apple is working to fix iPadOS 18 for the iPad Pro and it should go live whenever everything has been resolved. For now, if you don’t see the update, it is because there is an issue with it, nothing else.

It is very unfortunate that this issue happened with Apple’s flagship iPad Pro, no other device. I hope it is fixed soon so that everyone can go back to their business.

One more thing, if you already have an iPadOS 18 IPSW lying around for your M4 iPad Pro, do not attempt to restore it. It won’t work, because Apple is no longer signing it.
