The new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro support faster 25W MagSafe charging speeds and there’s a new MagSafe Charger for it, too.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Support 25W of Fast Wireless Charging Using MagSafe – New MagSafe Charger Launch with 25W Speeds
Apple has discontinued the old MagSafe Charger and replaced it with a new one. When put side by side, you can’t tell the difference between either one. However, the newer one comes in two cable lengths – 1 meter and 2 meter. If you always disliked how short the cable was on the older MagSafe Charger, the new one should make you feel good.
With the increased cable length comes new price points, too. The 1 meter long version costs $39 while the 2 meter version costs $49. Again, you’re buying more cable therefore you better pay more money.
Now comes the part which you want to read about the most – charging speed.
The new MagSafe Charger tops out at 25W of speed. That’s pretty fast compared to the original one that maxes out at 15W. In order to achieve those speeds, you need to pair the charger with a 30W USB-C adapter. There are plenty to choose from and investing in one makes sense if you have been living the wireless charging life for a long time.
Do keep in mind when you connect this charger to anything older than the iPhone 16, you will get up to 15W of charging speeds only. The 25W speed is exclusive to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. If you already have the MagSafe Charger and don’t plan on upgrading to the new iPhone, don’t spend money on the new one, unless you need that extra cable length, then it makes perfect sense.
