AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 just received a new 7A304 firmware update and it should be available to you right away.
New 7A304 Firmware Update for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 Now Available for Download
Apple released a brand new firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2 just a while back, adding all the iOS 18 gestures and features to the earbuds. Today, Apple is releasing another firmware update, but this time it is also available for the new AirPods 4.
As ever, there’s no way to find out what is new in this update nor is there a way to force this update onto your AirPods. Rumor has it if you put your iPhone and AirPods on charge next to each other, it speeds up the update process.
My experience says this is all automatic and the software decides on its own when is the right time to install the update. Basically, you can try, but it may not work.
I’m going to assume that the new 7A304 firmware only includes bug fixes, nothing else. If it was something important, Apple would have highlighted in a support document.
But, given how the AirPods Pro 2 received its FDA approval as a hearing aid, there’s a chance this update has something to do with it. Again, all speculation, no idea what this does.
You can check the firmware version of your AirPods in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 by going to Settings > AirPods and then scroll all the way down to the ‘About’ section. You’ll find the firmware version here.
