Want to skip iOS 18 or iPadOS 18? You don’t have to upgrade right away when the update is available next Monday.

iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is Set for Release Next Week – However, You Don’t Have to Upgrade and You Will Keep on Receiving Security Patches

Apple is going to roll out a brand new iOS 17.7 update on Monday that allows users to skip iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 for a while. If you don’t plan on upgrading to Apple’s latest firmware, that’s absolutely fine.

With iOS 17.7 installed, you will keep on receiving security patches as they become available from time to time. This is extremely important given new security threats creep up on a very regular basis. Even if you don’t have the latest features of iOS 18, you will still get the latest security fixes straight from Apple.

Do keep in mind Apple will only roll out these security patches for a certain period of time. After that, you will not get them and may have to update to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in order to get more security fixes.

There are a lot of situations where you may want to stick with older firmware for a while and skip iOS 18. This includes workplaces that relies on in-house software that isn’t immediately compatible with the latest updates from Apple. In such situations, skipping newer updates is a favorable choice.

As a regular user, you can skip iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 for a while, too. While new software is exciting and all, you can take the time and see how the update fares for everyone else before you make the leap. Issues like battery life and poor third-party app support is expected at launch. But with time, these things are ironed out.

Once everything is in the green, you can go right ahead and install iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 when the road is the smoothest.

If you want to download and install iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 right now instead, you have that choice, too. Just follow the tutorial posted here.
