A new report suggests Apple’s upcoming smart home device is going to feature a ‘squarish’ display and powered by the A18 chip.
Apple’s Upcoming Smart Home Device Will Have a Square Display, A18 Chip, Camera for FaceTime and More
Reported by 9to5Mac, this a rather interesting one. With the A18 chip powering the whole thing, it is becoming clear as day that this device is going to feature Apple Intelligence, something previous reports have been insisting as well.
Another fascinating thing is the aspect ratio of the display Apple is planning to use on this device. Apparently, it’s going to have a ‘squarish’ display. It remains to be seen what that exactly means. Is Apple going to use a square display or an aspect ratio that is less wider than an iPad?
The report also says there’s going to be a built-in camera on this device, allowing users to control it using hand gestures. The very same camera is going to be tasked with handling FaceTime calls and other apps.
It is also being reported that the camera will be able to identify individual users, allowing it to serve personal requests and more. This is a very handy feature and one I’m looking forward to the most.
Older reports suggested that Apple’s smart home device is going to retail for around $1,000 and may be released in 2026. Safe to say it’s pretty far away from now.
While traces of a touch-screen friendly tvOS software found in the past, it remains to be seen what branding this device is going to carry. It is definitely going to be a smart home device, without a doubt. But, is it a version of HomePod? Or entirely something else?
