iOS 18 is a Strict Requirement
Secondly, and it is a very strict requirement – your iPhone must be running iOS 18 otherwise you won’t be able to download watchOS 11 final update at all. You can download iOS 18 on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap on ‘Update Now’ when you see iOS 18.
Install watchOS 11 on Apple Watch
Step 1. Place your Apple Watch on its magnetic charger. Your battery must be 50% or more, too.
Step 2. On your iPhone, launch the ‘Watch’ app.
Step 3. Go to General > Software Update.
Step 4. When watchOS 11 shows up, tap on ‘Update Now.’
As ever, this is going to be a very lengthy installation. This is how watchOS updates work and it’s not surprising at all. The important thing here is, do not tinker around with your Apple Watch during the installation process. Just let the watch sit on its charger along with your iPhone.
Though it doesn’t have to be said at this point, but you cannot downgrade back to watchOS 10 once you install watchOS 11. watchOS updates are a one-way ticket and there is absolutely nothing you can do to go back to watchOS 10. But hey, why do you want to downgrade anyway, right? Enjoy the new features which watchOS 11 brings to the table. If you just use your Apple Watch for notifications, and nothing else, you won’t notice anything has changed at all.
Again, iOS 18 is a strict requirement for watchOS 11. If you don’t install that first on your iPhone, you won’t even see the new update for Apple Watch. And this isn’t the first time Apple is doing this either.
