Apple has released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 4 for all compatible devices, and here’s everything that is new.

iOS 18.1 Beta 4 Adds a Bunch of Noticeable Changes, Including Call Recording on Older iPhones

iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta introduces a big new change – it is now available for every device that can run iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0. This means you can download and install the update, too if you already have iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 up and running. All you have to do is sign up for the Apple Developer Program and enable developer betas on your iPhone or iPad.

However, if you are interested in what’s new in this update, I have created a short list of everything noteworthy. So, let’s dive right into it.

More Device Support

Again, the update is no longer limited to iPhone 15 Pro and later or iPads with M-series chips. Each and every iPhone and iPad that supports iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 can now download the beta.

Call Recording Now Available on Older iPhones

Call recording was supposedly a feature limited to Apple Intelligence-only iPhones, but it is available on older iPhone models, too. Apparently, we were all wrong.

You Can Now Pause Video Recording

You don’t have to stop the video recording completely if someone interrupts you. The Camera app adds a pause button while recording video. Extremely handy.

Ability to Restore iPhone 16 Firmware Wirelessly

If there’s an iPhone 16 in recovery mode nearby, you can use your iPhone to restore its firmware wirelessly. This is an extremely useful update and one which I want to see for every single Apple device.

Spatial Photo Capture Now Available on iPhone 15 Pro

With the latest update, your iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can capture a spatial photo, allowing you to see it in depth on Vision Pro. I’m not sure how this is helpful given the new visionOS 2 Photos app already converts 2D images to spatial ones automatically.

So, there you have it, you now know about everything noteworthy in iOS 18.1 beta 4.
