Apple is definitely testing the iOS 18.0.1 update for iPhone and iPad as it has shown up in several logs online.
Apple is Internally Testing iOS 18.0.1 Software Update for iPhone and iPad – Expect it to Release Very Soon
Given the current state of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, a bug fix update is definitely needed. From bricked M4 iPad Pro devices to touch-screen related issues, the latest update has its fair share of problems.
According to MacRumors, iOS 18.0.1 has started to show up in their activity logs which means Apple is testing the new update internally and could release very soon.
I was expecting this update to be released on Monday and given we are very close to the weekend, I’ll be surprised if Apple actually releases this update this week. But, I really hope it does.
A release some time next week is more likely though. Apple is definitely going to fix a ton of bugs and issues that have been plaguing iPhone and iPad users. If Apple manages to squash most of the bugs lingering around iOS and iPadOS, it will give users a great reason to upgrade, especially those who decided to sit on iOS 17.7 and iPadOS 17.7.
Whenever the update shows up, make sure you go to Settings > General > Software Update to download it. If you have automatic updates enabled, the update will install overnight and you don’t have to worry about anything at all.
Releasing a bug fix update that fixes a minimum amount of bugs wouldn’t be a wise move. I expect Apple to clean up as much as possible before releasing iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1. This is extremely important given the quality of software Apple has been releasing lately. Even some HomePod devices ended up being bricked just recently, not just the M4 iPad Pro.
It is clear Apple is behind schedule and things are being rushed. Even their latest flagship phones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, are made with the new Apple Intelligence features in mind yet they were shipped without it.
