iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 software update for iPhone and iPad features get detailed in a brand new report.

Apple’s iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 Software Update Coming Later with Image Playground and Genmoji, Powered by Apple Intelligence

It is obvious Apple will release new software updates to iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 as we move forward. According to Mark Gurman in his PowerOn newsletter, the new iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 software update for iPhone and iPad will include important features, and both are related to Apple Intelligence.

One of these features is Image Playground. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it allows you to create images right on your iPhone and iPad using word prompts. You can get as creative as you want. But, the most interesting part about this feature is this – it works entirely on-device and does not send your prompts to Apple at all nor pull in something from the cloud.

The second feature that will be a part of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 is Genmoji. It basically lets you create a completely custom emoji using Apple Intelligence. It can be anything at all, really. You can dive into your photo library and make your Genmoji look like someone, too. And just like Image Playground, this works on-device as well.

As you might have probably guessed by now, this update is only useful for devices that support Apple Intelligence, and that includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 pro and all iPads with the M-series chip. For everyone else, I’m assuming this update will only include bug fixes and some small improvements.

The first Apple Intelligence features will become available to iPhone and iPad users with the release of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1. iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 simply builds on top of what already exists by including what’s missing. It will be a while before all the features Apple announced at WWDC become available to everyone around the world, including ChatGPT support.

This isn’t the first time Apple has done this. Some features are available at launch while some are slowly rolled out to everyone over a course of time. But don’t worry, you’re getting everything there is, but slowly and gradually.
