After extensive testing, the charging speed of the iPhone 16 Pro Max has been revealed. And yes, it’s faster than last year.
Lab Testing Shows iPhone 16 Pro Max Capable of Sustaining 30W of Charging Speed Using a 35W or Faster Charger
A previous report said that Apple’s latest lineup of iPhones support up to 45W of fast wired charging. Turns out, that report was partially correct. With the new iPhones now in the hands of people and testers, we now know the true charging speed of the iPhone 16 lineup, or more precisely the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
However, all of these phones are faster compared to last year when it comes to charging speed. We even know they support 25W of fast wireless charging using the new MagSafe Charger from Apple.
But, how fast are they if you do your charging using a regular USB-C cable?
First and foremost, you need to use a 35W USB-C charger if you want to charge your iPhone 16 Pro Max at the fastest possible speeds. With ChargeLAB doing all the legwork for us, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will top out at speeds of up to 37W, but only for a small moment.
The sustained charging speed is usually around 30W and that’s slightly faster than the 27W the iPhone 15 Pro Max supported.
Now comes the part which most of you will find interesting.
Despite its faster charging speeds, the iPhone 16 Pro Max takes up to 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge up. Compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, that’s slightly slower. However, testing shows the new iPhone is cooler to the touch after 40 minutes of charging compared to last year’s phone. This means better heat dissipation which is definitely great for the battery.
The things you should care about most is this: use a 35W charger if you want the fastest possible charging speeds on your iPhone 16 Pro Max. Using a faster charger will not harm the iPhone either since it will only pull in 30W of power when needed.
It’s a myth that using an extremely fast charger will damage your iPhone. I’m here to tell you, it won’t. You can use a 100W or Apple’s 140W charger all you want, and your iPhone will only charge at the required speed. Nothing more, nothing less.
