Looks like Apple is going to bump up the base storage of iPhone 16 Pro from 128GB to 256GB.
Apple Will Give the iPhone 16 Pro a Memory Upgrade – Will Start at 256GB of Base Storage Instead of 128GB
According to a report from TrendForce, Apple is going to bump up the storage of the smaller iPhone 16 Pro from 128GB to 256GB. But while doing so, it will likely bump up the price of the handset from $999 to $1,099 as well.
While that may sound like a price bump, but the truth is, it’s not. Apple might actually just get rid of the 128GB tier altogether and start at the 256GB option directly which costs $1,099 anyway. This is exactly what the company did with the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year as it ditched the 128GB model completely in favor of 256GB.
Whatever Apple ends up doing, the 128GB tier really needs to go. With every passing year, the cameras on our devices are improving and videos are no longer in standard definition as HDR is becoming more common. Having a base storage of 256GB gives the user way more breathing room for apps, games and other content to be stored locally.
Those who need more storage can always opt for iCloud Drive or a third-party service like Google Photos. Both are worth the money as it ensures the safety of your data and timely backups gives everyone peace of mind, too.
With the increase in base storage, do keep in mind the iPhone 16 Pro – the smaller model – will also see a bump in screen size from 6.1 to 6.27 inches. You will also get that 5x telephoto camera, just like the one on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, wouldn’t it be funny if Apple gives the smaller iPhone the 5x zoom while boosting the one on the Pro Max to 6x or even 7x? I’m sure that won’t happen.
