New details regarding the iPhone 17 lineup have emerged and it seems as though they will pack big display upgrades.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim to Feature Always-on Displays with 120Hz Refresh Rate – iPhone 17 Pro Getting Under-Display Face ID
If you are planning to skip the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro this year, you probably made the right call. According to Ross Young on X, it seems the entire iPhone 17 lineup is going to receive a massive display upgrade, something everyone should look forward to.
According to Ross, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim (or Air) will both have LTPO and 120Hz displays. What this means is, the standard iPhone 17 will feature an always-on display as well as 120Hz refresh rate, a feature currently exclusive to the Pro lineup. Interestingly, the same features are coming to the special Air/Slim model, too.
Here’s the part where things get interesting – apparently, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get an under-display Face ID sensor. Details regarding this are very scarce, but it seems Apple is ready to move most of the sensors underneath the display that would remove the pill cutout in favor of something else or nothing at all.
The amount of reports we currently have regarding the iPhone 17, Apple is planning to go big and wants to give everyone a reason to upgrade. With the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is only appealing to those who are holding on to their iPhone 12 or 13, whereas there’s nothing much for those with iPhone 15 Pro.
The iPhone Pro has always been better in terms of displays specs, and next year users don’t have to worry that much, especially when it comes to two major things – always-on display and refresh rate. With these two things coming to the standard models, the reason to spend more money just to get better display specs become slimmer.
We still have a year to go until the iPhone 17 launches officially. Until then, the rumors and reports will keep us on our toes.
