Don’t want to test out new tvOS 18 beta updates on your Apple TV? Here’s what you need to do to stop receiving them.
You Can Stop Receiving tvOS 18 Beta Updates Once You Install the Final Version – Here’s What You Should do Now
tvOS beta updates are very safe to test out. Even if they include major changes, you can rest assured nothing will be broken when it comes to consuming content on the big screen. Your Netflix and YouTube will stream just fine no matter what happens. Strange, right?
However, once you have downloaded and installed the final version of tvOS 18 on your Apple TV and don’t want to test out more beta updates, you have that option at hand. I suggest disabling future beta updates immediately, so that you only download and install publicly available software going forward, unless you plan to test out more beta software for any reason at all.
Here’s what you should do:
Step 1. Launch the ‘Settings’ app from the tvOS home screen.
Step 2. Scroll down and open ‘System.’
Step 3. Now open up ‘Software Updates.’
Step 4. Here you’ll see an option called ‘Get Beta Updates.’ Open it up.
Step 5. Select ‘Off.’
From now on, you won’t receive new tvOS 18 beta updates. You can relax and enjoy publicly available software updates and never worry about running unfinished software on your Apple TV.
Again, tvOS betas tend to be very, very stable even in the early days. Sure, there might be some hiccups, but you can usually ignore them. In my experience of testing tvOS betas over the year, I’ve never come across something that proved to be a showstopper. In fact, I can’t even recall even the smallest bug, whether it’s first-party or third-party software.
With tvOS 18, Apple isn’t bringing massive changes to the Apple TV. The only thing you will notice immediately is the new InSight feature which is exclusive to the TV+ service. As characters are shown on the big screen, InSight will give you more information about them so that you can keep your celebrity knowledge up to date.
Apart from the above mentioned feature, you also get support for 21:9 output if you have an external projector connected that supports the wide aspect ratio.
