Here is a list of everything that is new in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 5 for iPhone and iPad devices.
What’s New in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 Beta 5 – New Camera Control Selfie Option, Control Center Reset and More
Though iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 have been out for quite some time, Apple is still busy moving some things around in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1. Now that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are here too, Apple has added some iPhone 16-specific features to iOS 18.1 as well.
There are a bunch of great changes in the new update. I’m going to start the list with the change Apple is bringing to the iPhone 16 lineup, and then slowly work my way to other noticeable changes for everyone else.
Camera Control Now Does Selfies
The Camera Control ‘button’ on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro adds a new selfie option in the Camera app. This means you can use Camera Control to go straight to the front-facing camera and snap a wonderful photo of yourself immediately.
You Can Now Reset Control Center
Did you go too far with your Control Center customization and want everything back to normal? Just reset the whole thing and start from scratch. This is an extremely handy little option who want to start over if their current setup isn’t working out at all.
Wi-Fi and VPN Get their Dedicated Buttons in Control Center
You can add a dedicated Wi-Fi or VPN toggle switch to Control Center instead of relying on the default option. It’s definitely a welcome change, especially for those who want their Wi-Fi toggle switch exactly where they want it to be.
Files Drag-and-Drop Now Works in iPhone Mirroring
An extremely important feature of iPhone Mirroring is finally coming with iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 – the ability to drag and drop files. Currently, you are only limited to cut, copy and paste for text. With iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, you will be able to drag and drop files from your iPhone to the Mac and vice versa.
Given the final version of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 is set for October, it seems as though we might see a beta or two more before. It remains to be seen what sort of changes Apple adds next time.
