iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is out now. In case you are wondering where those fancy Apple Intelligence features are, let me explain.
Apple Intelligence is Not a Part of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 – Apple to Roll Out AI Features with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 Only
Apple is rolling out iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to every compatible iPhone and iPad device around the world. However, you must be wondering where those Apple Intelligence features are which Apple talked about so much, right?
Long story short – those features aren’t part of the iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 updates. Don’t worry, it’s not a fluke. Apple Intelligence is going to be a part of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 which is set for release next month, October. You also need a compatible device in order to use those AI features, too.
You must have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro in order to use Apple Intelligence. If you want to use AI on your iPad, you need something that has Apple’s M-series chip inside, otherwise no Apple Intelligence for you.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 is just the beginning when Apple starts rolling out AI features. iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 will add more features as we move forward. Things like ChatGPT support are planned for future iOS and iPadOS releases and won’t be available immediately.
That pretty much answers the question – where is Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18? It’s not here yet and will be rolled out starting next month.
Personally, I’m excited about Apple Intelligence, but I will give my verdict about it once I actually have it up and running on my devices. I am not a huge fan of AI and I don’t use it that often. My experience with it has been subpar at best, with tons of hallucinated answers when you start to double-check the answers you receive.
I want to see if Apple’s AI effort suffers from the same thing, too. While internal code suggests Apple has good measure in place in order to avoid hallucinated answers, it will be interesting to see what it actually does when it does come across something that is extremely complicated.
I’m sure someone will put it to its paces and answer it for us. For now, we have a month to go until we actually get to use Apple Intelligence. But, if you want to install the beta on a compatible device, that is a choice, too.
