Apple has just announced the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with the M4 family of chips, including the M4 Pro and M4 Max.
Apple Announces 2024 MacBook Pro Models with Powerful M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max Chips and Insane Performance
In terms of design, nothing has changed at all. However, there is a ton of things new under-the-hood in these laptops, starting with the M4 family of chips.
M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max
Indeed, the MacBook Pro remains a powerful laptop, and the inclusion of M4 Max is a testament to that. Apple says that these chips are manufactured on the second-generation 3nm process, which should help with performance and efficiency.
The base 14-inch MacBook Pro ships with the M4 chip, which features a 10-core CPU and GPU. The M4 Pro MacBook Pro, on the other hand, ships with a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, really stepping things up in terms of performance.
M4 Max takes everything to the next level with its monstrous 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. Apple says this chip delivers up to 3.5x performance compared to the M1 Max. And with support for up to 128GB of RAM, the MacBook Pro with M4 Max is a beast for any sort of workload.
Display Gets an Upgrade + Nano-Texture Option
Yup, you can now buy the new MacBook Pro with a nano-texture display, allowing you to get rid of glare as much as possible. This is one of the best things you can get on a laptop, especially if you find yourself outdoors way too much.
Apple says the display now supports up to 1000 nits of brightness while showing SDR content and up to 1600 nits on HDR.
New 12-Megapixel Center Stage Camera
Apple is really pushing the Center Stage camera on its Mac lineup. It brought it to the new M4 iMac, and now it’s on the new 2024 MacBook Pro as well.
Since the MacBook Pro now has an ultra-wide camera, you can use Desk View to show yourself and the contents on your desktop with a top-down view, both at the same time.
Thunderbolt 5
The base model M4 MacBook Pro ships with the Thunderbolt 4 port. However, if you upgrade to the M4 Pro and M4 Max, you get Thunderbolt 5, a port that’s stunningly fast with speeds up to 120Gbps.
Since we’re on the topic of connectivity, it’s worth mentioning that this notebook supports Wi-Fi 6E, though an upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 would have been a far better choice here.

You can pre-order the new 2024 MacBook Pro today, and it will be available on the 8th of November.
