Apple has stopped iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 for iPhone and iPad which means you can no longer downgrade from iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1.
iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 for iPhone and iPad No Longer Being Signed, Downgrade from 18.0.1 No Longer Possible
iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 were a buggy mess, and there aren’t many nice things to say about them. However, iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 is a fantastic update that fixes so many things wrong with the 18.0 update.
If you been wandering around iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 territory waiting for things to smooth out, iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 is the green light you’ve been looking for. It’s safe to say you can update and enjoy the new features Apple has introduced for iPhone and iPad without worrying about anything now.
However, if you want to update to iOS 18.0 and iPadOS 18.0 only, and not 18.0.1, you can no longer do that since Apple has stopped signing the 18.0 update completely. You can’t upgrade to it, nor you can downgrade to it.
You can download and install iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 only. You can either perform a clean install or do an over the air update, it’s up to you. Also, do not attempt to install the 18.0 update at all – when Apple isn’t signing it, it won’t ever install no matter what you tried.
I always recommend installing software updates as they arrive. Apart from new features, you end up getting a load of bug fixes and performance improvements across the board. The 18.0.1 update is a prime example of this – it focuses on fixing so many bugs, it’s hard to believe how a small update can prove to be a glass of ice water in the desert.
The next big iOS and iPadOS update is arriving at the end of October. With iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence will finally become available to users with a compatible device. It will no longer be a name on a marketing poster or website, but a proper feature/service that you can use.
