Well, the Apple smart glasses are back in the rumor mill once again and apparently releasing in 2027, too.

Apple Working on Smart Glasses for 2027 Launch, Will be Similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

Apple working on smart glasses is not a new rumor at all. Previously, it was believed that these glasses will be similar to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.

This means Apple’s glasses will be limited to just a camera in them and will rely heavily on Apple Intelligence features and maybe even Visual Intelligence to deliver experiences to the user.

At the time of writing, delivering a real AR experience in such a form-factor is very expensive. The Meta Orion glasses is a prime example of that as the technology is brand new and it costs the company $9,999 per glasses.

Mark Gurman believes that these glasses will become available in 2027. But, the interesting thing here is, this product is an outcome of the research Apple did for the Vision Pro. In other words, Apple has learned a lot from its research and is planning to turn it into a new product.

The report by Mark gets really interesting as it goes to say that Apple is also going to release AirPods with built-in cameras. If I’m to take a guess, these cameras will be used for scanning the environment and not for taking photos or recording videos.

Again, Visual Intelligence at play, at best.

The news about AirPods with built-in cameras is not new either. Previously, they were rumored for a 2026 release. But, it seems Apple is not ready to release them just yet. There’s a high chance Apple is waiting for its AI features to mature before making such strides.

The Apple glasses definitely have me excited for one reason and I’m sure many will agree to this – it’s going to tie in well with third-party apps. I say this because Apple is definitely going to treat it as an extension for apps like Instagram and Snapchat, allowing users to record videos and photos to share on the social networks.

You no longer have to buy dedicated hardware to do such a thing, something which is very frustrating.

There’s even a chance Apple might just keep its glasses limited to AI capabilities only, and close it off completely for developers. I just hope that’s not the case.
