Apple has just released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 RC for iPhone and iPad; go ahead and download it right away.
You Can Now Download iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 for iPhone and iPad – Take Apple Intelligence for a Spin
Ahead of next week’s full and final release of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, Apple has seeded the RC build of the software for developers and public beta testers. In order to download it right now, here’s what you have to do:
- Connect to Wi-Fi and make sure you have 50% or more battery life.
- Launch the Settings app and go to General > Software Update.
- Wait for the page to refresh and iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 RC will show right up. Download it immediately.
In case you’re wondering what RC is – it’s full and final software that is seeded to developers and public beta testers. If you are enrolled in Apple’s Developer Program or the Beta Software Program, you can take the software for a spin right now.
Compared to the beta that was released last week, this one should be very stable. However, do keep in mind that software is never 100% perfect. If there are bugs or some other issues, Apple will likely fix it in a future update to iOS and iPadOS. But hopefully, this update should be extremely stable and should address a bunch of issues users have been facing.
If you want to download and install iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 RC right now and don’t want to wait for next week, you can do that, too. Just go to beta.apple.com, sign up with your Apple Account then on your iPhone and iPad go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and choose iOS 18 Public Beta. Once you do this, the RC will show right up for download.
Easy, right?
At this point, it feels like an eternity since Apple announced Apple Intelligence. It’s hard to believe all the artificial intelligence stuff will be available to everyone with a compatible device next week. Anyone with an iPhone 15 Pro or above or an iPad with an M-series chip or the latest iPad mini 7 will be able to take Apple Intelligence for a spin.
The first batch of features including Writing Tools, summaries and the ability to remove objects from photos using the Photos app. Though it doesn’t like much, but that’s how Apple has planned to roll out features among users.
With iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, Apple will unleash the second wave of features which includes the much-awaited ChatGPT integration and Vision Intelligence for the iPhone 16.
