The iPad mini 7 doesn’t charge any faster compared to the iPad mini 6 and it maxes out at 20W speed.
Given the size of the iPad mini 7, 20W Charging Speed is More than Enough
With the inclusion of a faster A17 Pro chip and a faster USB-C port, you’d expect the iPad mini 7 to charge faster, too. But, that’s not the case.
As the iPad mini 7 is going through necessary certifications in different countries before it goes on sale, it has come to everyone’s attention that the new smaller tablet is limited to 20W of fast charging speeds with its support for 9V 2.22A.
The data was revealed by a China Compulsory Certificate certification report, as found by 91Mobiles.
I wish the iPad mini charged faster compared to the previous-generation model, but I’ll take 20W speeds over anything any time of the day. That’s around a 2 hour-ish worth of time to take the battery from zero to 100%.
However, if you love doing partial charges or live the charge-till-80% life, then this speed limitation shouldn’t bother you at all. Because, charging speeds slow down after 80% and keep on getting slower as go closer to the 100% mark anyway.
This also means one thing, make sure you do not invest in a faster wall charger unnecessarily, unless you’re planning to future-proof your charging gear. A 20W charger is more than enough and you’ll find a ton of options, that too at a very low price point.
