The first iPad mini 7 Geekbench scores have surfaced online and it’s a big upgrade over iPad mini 6.
iPad mini 7 Geekbench Scores Confirm 8GB of RAM, 5 GPU Cores and Performance Very Close to iPhone 15 Pro
Apple’s iPad mini 7 is a very interesting little tablet. Though it would have been nice if Apple went with the M1 or M2 chip for the new iPad mini, but going with the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone 15 Pro is an interesting choice as well.
First and foremost, the chip is slightly different from the one used in the iPhone 15 Pro. It features one less GPU core, something that will definitely show up in Geekbench scores, and it has.
Today, iPad mini 7 Geekbench scores have surfaced online and they do show slightly less performance compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the difference is so small, no-one will notice it in day-to-day use.
In single-core performance, the iPad mini 7 scores 2,817 and the multi-core score is 6,982. Compared to iPad mini 6, that’s a big upgrade since the older tablet scores 2,121 in single-score and 5,367 in multi-core.
Now, compared to the iPhone 15 Pro, the difference is there, but only slightly. The iPhone 15 Pro, with all its 6 GPU and CPU cores, scored 2,888 in single-core performance and 7,169 in multi-core.
8GB of RAM is also confirmed in the new iPad mini 7 which means the requirement of Apple Intelligence is well taken care of by Apple here. Even if you don’t use Apple Intelligence, that extra RAM is definitely going to prove useful in tasks that involve multitasking.
The hardware used in the iPad mini 7 gives us a good glimpse into how Apple positions its smaller tablet. It’s not meant for extremely heavy tasks, but rather be efficient in smaller ones.
With Apple Intelligence a key feature in the new iPad mini, it will be interesting to see how people are going to utilize Apple’s AI features in their daily routine. So far, I can’t think of that many, especially when taking iPadOS into account. But sure, it’s definitely more useful on something like a Mac.
Just a few more days to go and Apple Intelligence will be unleashed upon us.
